“These Feel Like Drums” — Ayo Kwe on Dialtune
Kwesi “Ayo Kwe” Robinson shares his experience behind the kit
What's going on? I’m Kwesi "Ayo Kwe" Robinson. I recently got behind the Dialtune kit—and here’s the honest truth:
These drums are extremely musical. They feel good. They feel like drums. That might sound basic, but a lot of companies miss that. With these, I felt in control right away.
The tuning system? It’s wild. So easy. I dialed in the whole kit in just a couple minutes. The acrylic snare? That might be mine now. It’s probably my favorite. It’s my sound. Just perfect for me.
The maple shell surprised me too—I've never gotten a 14" snare to sound this open and deep. Under mics, they were smacking. No EQ, no nothing. Just clean tone. And the stock heads? Still held tuning perfectly. I could play five shows on this thing and not worry.
I don’t usually use rack toms, but the kick, floor tom, and snare? I’d take those on tour 100%. If I could pack these up and hit the road in two weeks, I would. These drums are a problem-saver—for drummers, engineers, and techs.
Swapping heads? Less than 10 seconds. The mechanics of it all—it’s genius. Seriously. Studio guys are gonna love this. Drum techs are gonna love this. And they look crazy. The snares? They look like UFOs. I’d get a whole rack just to show 'em off.
I’m a stickler for feel. If a drum doesn’t feel right, I’m not playing it. But these? They feel right. They sound great. They feel great. That’s it.
