A True Game Changer for Drummers

This is an excellent snare drum — I’m absolutely in love with its sound and craftsmanship. For those who use tools like Tune-Bot, the highest frequency I was able to achieve with the stock heads on the resonant side was 375 Hz, which is more than enough for many tuning styles. I hope this information is helpful to others.

A few things I’ve noticed while using it: when loosening the dial for head changes, it’s very important to return the hoop to the exact same position it was originally in. This helps ensure everything lines up properly when reassembling the drum. Also, when detuning for head replacement, make sure the cable remains correctly seated inside the pulley system, as this can affect tuning consistency later on.

A huge thank you to Bryan and the entire team at Dialtune
for all their support and patience while answering my questions. That’s something I’ll always appreciate. They are incredibly friendly and genuinely take the time to help you understand the system. Thanks to their feedback and interaction during my experience with their products, I unintentionally became quite knowledgeable about the pulley system myself.

Without a doubt, this has been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.

The microphone loves this snare drum

Very well thought out and solidly constructed. I've had my dialtune snare drum for over 4 years now and still love it. Have tried several different heads and tunings looking for different sounds and dialtune makes it so easy to do this.

Unlimited Potential Unlocked!

I was playing with the blues quartet the other day, and the set shifted from delta blues to an uptempo funk number that called for a much tighter snare sound (a la Ants Marching by DMB). The fact I could make that shift within seconds and further fine tune mid song was an absolute game changer!

Then to go from that tight funk crispiness to then drop it to the ultimate worship snare drum sound for the next gig was so easy!

Fellow musicians, it's not uncommon to have several dozen variables when dialing in your snare sound: from individual lug tension, to overall head tension, to snare wire tension, to head selection, and the list goes on. Dialtune has eliminated all but just a small handful of those variables. So it's so easy to isolate and fine tune. When I got my snare tuned low, and I typically like the snare side about a fifth higher than the batter, I was able to tell it only took a micro turn of the snare wires to achieve chef's kiss sound. To that end, this is the perfect drum to use as a learning tool to learn how the heads and snare wires interact.

I haven't even gotten to play with different heads because the heads that came on it are dope! Hats off to Dialtune for putting Evans on instead of Remos, like every other company out there.

The only things to keep in mind: it's about as heavy as my b20 bronze alloy snare; it's bulky so it takes a little finesse to get it to sit on a snare stand securely; and standard mic clips for an SM57 don't fit on the hoops, so you gotta get a little creative for mic placement.

I cannot wait until my full kit arrives in 2026!

Just the best !!- I absolutely love my dial tune snare drum. The nickel over brass is beautiful.

I absolutely love my dialtune black nickel over brass snare. I never thought I would find a snare so easy to tune and to change the heads.
Everyone that has seen it has complimented me on its looks and the sound quality.
If you're looking for a snare that draws attention wherever you go, the dial tune is the one to get. You won't be sorry.

Cat's Meow!!

Can't say enough about it. Just love it. It cracks like unbelievable, and changing the head Forget about it !! Could it be any easier? lol So wish I had this back in the 80s in my heyday On the road opening for national acts, when I was changing Snare heads three times a week. Would be cool to see what a deep shell would sound like if you guys made one. I love my brass I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the maple pretty soon too. I just purchased the yellow. and the Orange cables from you guys. So it will be the first time changing the cable. Oh boy lol

Epic snare drum!

This thing is an absolute BEAST! Great snares, awesome hardware, and the dials and mechanism work beautifully. The hoops are so freaking nice as well. Just be ready for how HEAVY it is :)
10/10 would definitely recommend getting one of these, but make sure you have a heavy duty snare stand or buy one(trust me, worth it). Also worthwhile to get a hard case for this if you plan on ever gigging or going anywhere with it. After using it for a few months i just can't get over how amazing of a snare this is.
Can't wait for the whole kit one day......

Loving It!!

I'm guessing I was like a lot of other people... Skeptical! Nervous! Worried! ...and several other emotions. Did as much research as I could, watching a lot of videos. For my review, I'm going to borrow from one of those videos. All of the tech stuff on this drum is really cool. After all, changing heads and tuning within minutes is wonderful. And I do mean WONDERFUL! The quality of the drum is phenomenal. It looks really good! Customer service is great! Response time has been very fast. The drum shipped quickly and arrived in excellent condition. All of this, however, means nothing at all if the drum doesn't sound good. And for that, I can answer without hesitation... IT DOES!!!!!!

Holy eff this is sweet

Updating my previous review, now that I've had time with it. Best snare I've ever owned. Period. I slap one moongel or a snareweight on it and it can tame some of the resonation that my alt-metal band's sound requires.

I am truly awful at tuning traditional drums, and this thing gives me the peace of mind that all of my tension points are exactly equal. The quick release head makes changing heads so quick. And it's heavy. Heavy as balls. Which gets me excited in ways I wish it wouldn't...

All in all, incredible innovation.

Wow. Just wow.

I have looked at these drums for over a year and never pulled the trigger just because I only play at home and they aren’t cheap. Low and behold, my wife buys me one as a wedding gift. They are EVERYTHING and more as described and as reviewed. I have spent a lot of money on other brands/shell materials and this drum lives up to the hype. Well worth the investment. Sounds amazing tuned low, medium, or high, muffled or unmuffled. Just, wow. Once you throw on an Evans ST Dry batter head, I would put this snare up against any other snare on the market. Well done guys!

A great sounding and innovative drum !!

Mere words can’t do this invention justice. Nevertheless I’ll say a few things. First and foremost it sounds full in all registers. With other snares, I’ve spent a lot of time tweaking and tuning each lug in order to get it feeling and sounding good. When the sticks fly off a well tuned snare drum, it’s a great feeling and opens your drum skills to a higher level. This drum does that in mere seconds and always sounds great. As a professional who has played a lot of high profile gigs in the last 45 years, I can honestly say this is the best snare drum I’ve ever played. If sounding good and/or being versatile and saving time are important to you then you want to have this drum. It’s worth every cent of its price tag and much more. I hope they develop an entire ‘dial tune’ drum set.

I love this drum !

Impressive design. This snare drum is incredible. It feels great no matter what you tune it for and you can tune it in seconds. It’s a ‘game changer’. Especially when you’re playing a lot of different genres. :)

5 stars all the way!

At the time of writing this review, ALL reviews for ALL models are 5 stars. There's a reason for that. This drum is actually THAT good!

(And if someone ever posts a less-than-5-star review, I will only have one quesiton for that person: Dude, what is wrong with you?)

I won't be describing the actual benefits of this drum - the other reviewers have done a fantastic job doing that. Please be sure to read those.

I suppose my only complaint would be that my absolute favorite snare drum muffler - Snareweight #5 (not the leather one, the big heavy metallic one) - does not stick to the rim. That thing is held by magnets, and this drum's rim is not magnetic. Not a deal breaker though. Although I'd appreciate some sort of solution for this.

The other complaint would be that the drum is super-heavy. But boy does that pay off for cross-sticking! All that extra hardware weight certainly rings very nicely during cross-stick playing!

Love this snare! !!

This drum lives up to the hype. I purchased a black brass snare . The build quality is excellent . All the tuning mechanisms work smooth and do exactly what they claim to do! Extremely easy to use .
This Drum sounds and feels incredible when you play it. Has an extremely wide tuning range and sounds great no matter where you adjust it to.
Even at its lowest tuning it’s still sounds good and is useable.
Rimshots and rim clicks are very loud
Changing drum heads is super fast and easy. It’s nice to try different batter heads out for different sounds in under 30 seconds. Perfect for the studio
Being able to tune the top or bottom head separately on the fly to get the sound and feel your looking for quick is amazing!
They also added a Dw 3 position throw off. This drum was very well thought out and finally a company got the no drum key tuning thing right!
Been playing for 37 yrs and I presently own 8 snare drums , 3 Sonor a black beauty and various other top of the line drums and this to me sounds and feels the best when played. Very sensitive , responsive and doesn’t choke when played hard.
I sold my keplinger snare 2 weeks after playing this and others are now for sale. Can’t recommend this snare drum enough!
Customer service is top notch and Bryan Bedson is an awesome guy to deal with.
Get one. Trust me you won’t regret it.

BEST snare I’ve ever played

This snare has it all and caused me to shelf my collectors bell brass with gold hardware as well as my 13ply collectors pure purpleheart. Those two will now be used as deep snares to the left of the hats. This dialtune will be my forever main, unless I end up getting the dialtune bell bronze one day which will probably happen in a few years Lol.. but seriously this dialtune drum has floating hardware and the only thing that actually touches the shell is the snare throw off/butt plate, everything else is floating about a fourth of a millimeter off the shell for maximum resonance/sustain. The top and bottom are infinitely and independently adjustable which is great for quick experimental tuning..this drum will teach you a lot about ideal snare tuning combos between batter and reso, and will also be the penultimate snare drum for corporate band drummers doing 40 song sets in which each song might be by a different artist, you will be able to retune the snare in between songs to match the snare tones from the records, thus giving your audiences the most authentic listening experiences.. I can’t say enough good things about these dialtune drums in just a few paragraphs, it would take atleast 10 paragraphs, but I’ll close with the fact that dialtune cut no corners with these drums and spared no expense and you do get what you are paying for with these!!!!!!!!! The tone is out of this freakin world man. Also for anyone wondering, the hoops do sound very diecast!!!! They just have a different shape, but GOTTA be atleast 3mm if not way thicker, giving a very diecast cut in the rimshots!!

Game changer in the studio and on stage

There hasn't really been any eye catching innovations for a while in the drumming world... dialtune changes that.

Being able to change heads and tune accurately in seconds with the confidence of always producing a satisfying snare hit makes all the difference for drummers and audio engineers.

I'm hoping to purchase another model once the opportunity presents itself.

Make sure to get a strong snare stand as this drum is much heavier compared to your average snare drum.

Highly recommend this drum. Fast delivery and great team!

This thing is a CANNON!

I have some of the best snare drums in the game and this by far is my favorite. I will FOR SURE invest in more of Dialtune products!

It's 100% worth the price! So happy!!

Worth Every Penny !!

Just want to say thank you for the speedy shipping and delivery of the newest addition to my drum room.
I am so stoked!!
What a beautiful instrument!
This snare allows me to be so much more creative, and accommodating in various music genres on the fly. The ability to choose head tensions is awesome, but equally impressive is the rate of speed with which you can switch out heads. With the myriad of options in drum heads in todays market, the sonic possibilities are seemingly endless with the dial tune.
I'm looking forward to exploring these possibilities for many years to come!

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Does Dialtune tune the top and bottom heads independently?

Yes, you can control the tuning of the top and bottom heads independently using separate dials on either side of the drum. Check out our videos online for more information.

How do I change the cable on a Dialtune snare?

Changing a cable is a simple process and should be part of the regular maintenance you perform on your Dialtune snare drum. Dialtune's cable system uses high-tech synthetic fiber cable rated at over 500-lbs. Each length comes pre-stretched and carries zero memory, meaning it can be coiled and uncoiled easily without retaining any shape or structure. The cable is designed for smart failure, where it frays rather than snaps to prevent any damage to you or your drum. Most often, cable wears fastest near the dial as it is wound upon itself when tuning the drum up and down. If you tune your drum to a setting and leave it, the cable should hold for months if not years without needing to be replaced. The more you tune, the more frequently you'll want to check - and if need be - change your cable.

We've put together a video to walk you step by step through the process of changing a cable for either the top or bottom drum heads.

Can I put Dialtune's cable system on my current snare drum?

Not yet. Because of the wide variety of snare drums on the market, each drum has a unique lug pattern that makes it difficult to apply Dialtune's cable tuning system. To ensure the technology works, we are starting by making Dialtune as a complete snare drum so we can have more control over the quality! We hope to tackle an aftermarket version in the future.

Will a Dialtune snare break if I drop it? Is it built to last?

We built Dialtune to perform no matter what you throw at it. To prove this, we threw a drum off our 30ft roof to demonstrate Dialtune's durability.
